A balloon over the Mara

Sunrise above the plains, and why it is worth the early alarm.

The balloon lifts off in the dark and rises just as the sun comes up over the plains. Below, the herds barely look up.

Getting there

Most camps in the Mara can book the flight and the transfer.

Where to stay

A camp close to the launch site, so the alarm can be a little later.

What I would do differently

I would bring a warm layer. It is cold before sunrise, even on the equator.
