The Maasai Mara in the rainy season

Green plains, fewer cars and lower prices: the case for going off season.

The rainy season scares people away from the Mara. That is exactly why it is a good time to go.

Getting there

Small planes fly from Nairobi to airstrips inside the reserve.

Where to stay

A small camp on the edge of the reserve, with guides from the area.

What I would do differently

I would bring a light rain jacket. Showers are short and come in the afternoon.

Prices in this guide are what I paid. They move every season, so use them as a rough guide.
