A first safari in the Serengeti

What to expect, what to pack and how to choose a good guide.

A safari is mostly waiting, and then a few minutes that you remember for the rest of your life.

Getting there

Fly to Kilimanjaro or Arusha. Most safaris start there.

Where to stay

Tented camps inside the park, close to where the animals are that month.

What I would do differently

I would choose fewer parks and more days in each.

Prices in this guide are what I paid. They move every season, so use them as a rough guide.

I left a desk job in 2019 to travel slowly. This blog is everything I wish I had known before each trip: honest itineraries, real budgets and the places worth the detour.
