Notes from a week of mountain walks

Seven days, seven trails, and the small things that made each one better.

I spent a week walking a different trail every day from the same village. No hotel changes, no luggage, just a map and the weather forecast.

Getting there

Trains reach almost every valley in Switzerland. A regional pass covers trains, buses and most cable cars.

Where to stay

A small hotel at the end of the line, where breakfast starts early for walkers.

What I would do differently

I would start every walk at seven. Afternoon clouds came up four days out of seven.
