Your first multi-day hike: a simple plan

Three days, two huts and one backpack: how to plan a first long walk without stress.

A first long hike feels big until you split it into days. Pick a trail with huts, walk six hours a day and let the route do the planning for you.

Getting there

Choose a well-marked hut-to-hut route close to public transport. You want to be able to leave on any day if the weather turns.

Where to stay

Book the huts in advance and ask for half board: dinner and breakfast mean you only carry lunch and snacks.

What I would do differently

I would walk the first day shorter. Your legs learn the rhythm on day two, not day one.
