Venice in winter

Fog on the canals, empty bridges and the best time to see the city.

In January, Venice is quiet, foggy and cheaper. It is also the closest you get to the city its residents know.

Getting there

Trains arrive at Santa Lucia station, right on the Grand Canal.

Where to stay

A small hotel in Cannaregio, away from San Marco.

What I would do differently

I would bring boots. High water comes without much warning.
